A LISTENING "Ghosts are the language of the past, a 'kind of singing of things'." -- A.S. Byatt Poetry by LAURELYN WHITT It could be sage's scent on summer evenings, or the delicate incense of pine-filtered snow. or anything at all, inexorable and fleeting; a thrush's waterfall of song, spilling, some sweet tremolo of leaves the vibrant quake of aspen, whatever it is it sets his daughter dancing. The sea stirs. Their hands touch. No one notices how the hum of the world grows or their eyes half-close, in a listening.
